REVIEW: A Cowboy's Christmas Promise (Whisper Creek #2) By, Maggie McGinnis

Hayley is a godsend, accompanying him in the field and winning over his girls. It doesn’t take Daniel long to realize he’s falling for this woman, hard and fast. So before Hayley returns to Boston, he extracts a promise: that she will return to Whisper Creek for Christmas. It’s the perfect time and place to show Hayley that the promise of a beautiful life together is something she can believe in.

Let me just start this review by saying that I have not read the first book but I wish that I had. Granted it doesn’t take away from the story line or any of the characters but there are just some jokes that I couldn’t really appreciate because I had not read the previous book. This is the second in the Whisper Creek series and it follows Hayley and Daniel’s journey finding love after not expecting to have it again.

Hayley Scampini is a small animal vet in Boston. Her Uncle left her his practice and now she spends her days taking care of show animals while longing to be taking care of animals bigger than she is. Hayley is about to leave on a two week vacation back to Montana for one of her best friend’s wedding. She is expecting to have a two week fling with a hot cowboy but when she gets there she finds Daniel, the vet for the county, and she quickly realizes that fling is just not going to happen. I really liked Hayley. She was funny and smart. I loved how she refused to have a fling with Daniel when she found out her had two kids. She was hilarious in this book too. She couldn’t cook but kept trying and her interactions with her friends and Daniel were priceless.

Daniel McKee is the vet for Whisper Creek and the surrounding area in Montana. He is also a single dad of two young twin girls. When he is not working he is fighting his mother-in-law’s growing fight in getting the girls back to Denver. Daniel has learned to be alone. He isn’t looking for someone because he won’t find a second soul-mate in one lifetime. He puts that theory to the test when he meets Hayley and feels an instant attraction and connection that he hasn’t felt since his deceased wife. Daniel is a sweet guy. He enjoys his job and he is trying to be a great dad. Which he is. Daniel was caring, sweet, and sexy as hell.

This was sweet and romantic story about two people learning how to trust in love again. The story was well written and the flow worked. We got to see them together for the two weeks but we also got a glimpse of Hayley’s life in Boston and how they kept the friendship going through the weeks that they were apart. While reading you could really see their relationship growing and strengthen despite Hayley fighting it. Daniel also did a lot of growing in this book. He finally let the last little lingering pain from his wife dying go and embraced his new life with Hayley.  I think my only problem was the epilogue. Don’t get me wrong I loved most of it it was the way it ended. The only problem that wasn’t fully addressed was her sisters and now I want to watch them meet. I am really hoping and begging for maybe a novella or something about them meeting.

Other than the epilogue I really loved this sweet romance story and can’t wait to read more from this author.
