REVIEW: Love Hurts (Caged Love #1) By, Mandi Beck

Even when she won’t fight for us, I’ll go to war for her…

Inside the Octagon, I have no fear. I’m at home, in my element, inflicting pain onto men trained to hurt me just as badly. Making them submit, knocking them out, maiming them, because it’s them or me. And I choose them.

Outside the Octagon, my only weakness is a five-foot-two, classy as fuck woman that I’ve loved for most of my life. She’s the one that brings me to my knees, fills my arms, my heart, and one day soon, my bed. She makes me reckless. Volatile. I drink too much and try too hard to fuck my way out of feeling—all because of her.

Frankie De Rosa is my girl, my best friend. I haven’t earned her yet, but I won’t stand by and let anyone take her from me. She will be the greatest fight of my life, but she’s worth the battle.

Love hurts, but anything worth having does, right?

Review
Mandi Beck is one of those authors that will quickly rise to the auto-buy author list. This is a debut novel so it is a little rough around the edges but there is a great story in here. With every book that Mandi Beck releases after this I am sure will be better than the last. I was pleasantly surprised by this new author and can’t wait to read more.

“We flamed bright and then crashed, losing everything in the process.”

Deacon “The Hitman” love is a very successful MMA fighter. He a lot of female attention and is more of the love ‘em and leave ‘em type. No matter how many hours he spends training or between the sheets with other woman can make him forget the one woman he has always longed for. Deacon has been in love with Frankie for as long as he can remember. She might be a close friend of the family but she feels like anything other than family. The problem is Frankie has a douchebag boyfriend and she has never looked at Deacon as more than a best friend. A stolen kiss might just change everything.

“You can't lose someone that makes up a part of who you are. We are a part of each other, Princess. That's never going to change.”

Frankie has been best friends with Deacon and his family forever. Frankie won’t let her heart get any more involved than that. Deacon never has the same girl and she won’t be another added to his list. Frankie started dating a man that is safe. She makes herself believe that she needs someone like him and not Deacon. Soon Frankie will realize she has deeper feelings than she ever let herself believe for her best friend. It all changes when Frankie gets hurt and Deacon has decided he won’t stop fighting until he is all the way inside her heart.

“I loved you, but I wasn't ready for you. I hadn't earned the right for you to love me back yet.”

Deacon and Frankie’s relationship is definitely a volatile one. Deacon is hot tempered and Frankie can’t ever decide if she actually wants this relationship or not. Their friendship is a dynamic I never really connected with. The author didn’t spend enough time with the background and the reason for some of their quirks and habits. I would have loved to have some more of that. It would have helped me connect with them as a couple better. I wanted something other than their chemistry to pull me through this book. I really loved Deacon. He made some bone head decisions but I love him anyway. He was intense and a very very dirty talker. Loved it. Frankie was a bit of a mystery to me. The book is told mostly from Deacon’s POV so it was harder to get a feel for her. She was so back a forth I could never really tell if she wanted this relationship as much as Deacon. While the main focus is Deacon and Frankie I am nervous about the love triangle. It was looking like there was going to be one but it seemed to iron out at the end. I hope it stays that way.

“When I fuck you, it won’t be as your good buddy, Deacon. You feel me? When I finally get you to choose this, choose me, I am going to show you what it’s like to belong to a man. To be taken and completely owned by him, by me.”

Even after the minor tough spots in the book I loved it. It was angsty and sexy with a tiny bit of suspense thrown in there. The writing was great and the flow worked overall. That cliff hanger is killing me though. I need this book like now. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone and everyone.
